The city of Palmanova, built by the Venetians in 1593, is an example of a fortification that has remained intact to the present day. The plan of the city is 9 points and is defended by 3 circles of fortifications and ditches, underground passages and buildings for the troops. Since 2017 it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
